What is GoviLab

The GoviLab AgriTech Accelerator is an integral part of Sri Lanka's Inclusive Digital Agriculture Transformation (IDAT) strategy, a one-of-a-kind national initiative brought about by the collaborative efforts of the Government of Sri Lanka and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.


Implemented in partnership with Hatch and Sarvodaya, the accelerator is designed to tackle challenges encountered by smallholder farmers within Sri Lanka's agricultural landscape. Its primary objective is to establish an enabling ecosystem for innovators and entrepreneurs developing solutions which address these challenges to scale their business models ensuring affordability and accessibility of their solutions to smallholder farmers.

Focus Areas

GoviLab has collaborated with stakeholders from the government, private sector, industrial bodies and smallholder farmers themselves to identify 3 key problem areas faced by smallholder farmers that can be addressed through Agritech solutions developed by startups in Sri Lanka. Months

The first cohort of the “GoviLab” AgriTech Accelerator will select 10 startups through a competitive application process. Over a 6-month acceleration period, selected startups will undergo a comprehensive scale-up process, complemented by a capacity-building grant.

If you are a startup with

An AgriTech Product

e.g. Farm management software, sensors & IOT, Robotics, Agribusiness marketplace that solves one of the focus areas mentioned above; AND

Business operations between 1 - 10 years; AND

An existing customer base/are post-revenue OR

Have a technology that is between Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 - 9

The application process is now open, and interested startups can submit their proposals for consideration

Access to grant funding and equity investment opportunities and facilitated access to a large international investor and donor networks

Support in product development, including design, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing consultation to ensure scalability and relevance of your product for smallholder farmers nationwide.

Streamlined access to diverse partners including government, private sector, technology and agriculture experts, as well as direct engagement with smallholder farmer communities at the national level.

Mentorship by a set of qualified global and local experts; and curated set of capacity building sessions to support with national scaling of your technology
